This book is perfect for anyone who is still hooked on their “almost”. The amount of phrases I highlighted and sobbed over is astonishing. As a woman in my 20s, I constantly question if I’m doing the right thing or enough. Alissa DeRogatis confirmed that I am. By telling us Sloan’s story and struggles, she confirms that it’s expected to question things as they relate to love. Sobbed because of how much I related but also because this book showed me that it’s normal to be at different phases of life in our 20s. Lauren is the friend I wish I could have had in my life when I was hooked on my “almost”.

It's interesting to read that the author felt that this type of love story hadn't been told before, but I feel like the absolute desperate woman who clings onto a man who isn't giving her the love she needs is a classic trope. It screams, "I can fix him!"It's a trope that I cannot relate to in the slightest. It felt more like someone trying to validate their desperation and adoration of someone who didn't reciprocate their feelings (the male love interest is written by the same person after all) than what actually was reality--the guy clearly wasn't that into her, and she took whatever scraps of affection she could get. I hope that women/men/non binary folks understand that you shouldn't put yourself through two years of this to finally accept that the other person doesn't love you and treat you the way you should be treated.Spoiler alert:I certainly didn't want to have the protagonist end up with him, but to have the whole book be about this one guy that she's absolutely desperate for, who clearly doesn't love her back (despite the author trying to convince us otherwise) was just so deflating and unrelatable. It would have been interesting to have the book focus on more aspects of the main character or have her move onto other people even if she repeated the same patterns over and over again. The toxicity of the main character also is barely touched on.

At least after a few pages it gave me the gist of a wattpad romance fiction which meant to me like it’s more for high school young teens type of read. Not really like young adult, more of a 16-17 age read if you’re mature enough. Why? Because there was definitely moments of cringe (writing wise, character actions wise, etc).Very fast read but also very slow. I felt like I was flipping thru pages so quickly jeez. There was no emotion or depth in the characters. Dialogue was a bit off (or at least some of them was). How the story went wasn’t too interesting. Your typical type of college teens one of the girls in the dorm falls for the guy upstairs he has serious issues she wants to fix him but can’t an gets hurt in the end blah blah blah. Sorry that might’ve been harsh again but that was literally the whole entire book. The only part with depth and emotion came at the end, and by that time I was over it. Why was it slow at times? Because some parts wasn’t that interesting. ShucksBy my second day of reading I wanted to finish it already. Wrap it up. It was just going back and forth the whole read and you already knew how it would’ve ended by the beginning part. By then I wanted to wrap it up so badly I finished it that day.⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I saw this book on TikTok. Was a bit of a over hype and now I understand why. The only time I was really intrigued was all the times Ethan broke things off with Salone. Pretty good book for young teens.

I think people should read this book (especially after losing someone romantically)! It’s sooo relatable & healing!Alissa holds your hand- in a way- through the normal emotions of breaking up [anger, sadness, hopelessness, etc.]. CIWYW provides a kind of safe space for readers to find inner-closure with heartbreak. So, definitely give her love letter to breakups some love!
