Yamaha YRN-302B Sopranino Recorder, Key of F

I like it.It projects a more mellow tone than I was expecting from a Sopranino.I was afraid it would be quite shrill, but this is not the case at all.One thing I'm puzzled about, is why the blowhole isn't curved as it is on other Yamaha 300 and 400 series recorders.This one has a rectangular blowhole.Not a huge issue, but I really wanted to try one with a curved hole so I could check out the lighter breathing requirements versus a rectangular blowhole.I guess I'll have to get one of the larger recorders to test that theory.I plan on purchasing an Alto or tenor in the near future anyway.It comes with a canvas pouch that I'm not too thrilled with.I would have preferred a simulated leather pouch because they're easier to keep clean, but not a big issue.I actually wish they'd come with a fitted hard case with a springy hinge like you see on hard eyeglass cases.Unfortunately nobody I'm aware of makes one of those.Much more portable than a soprano, and not freaky shrill like a Garklein.I think it's pretty classy looking with the ivory colored tip only, rather than the usual three segments that are ivory colored.I always thought those looked kind of goofy, but this ivory colored tip by itself, is a nice touch!But I recommend this recorder?Absolutely!

Even though it came with joint cream, it does not twist apart at any of the junctions where it does on my instructor's to make adjustments. Otherwise, the sound is wonderful and it plays really nicely.

Everything about this instrument is fantastic down to the carrying case. You can tell they put genuine thought into what they wanted from this recorder. As an added bonus, they through in some recorder cream. The tone of the sopranino is lovely and has a wonderful upper range. I will definitely be purchasing more products from Yamaha in the future.

This is a top-notch professional plastic sopranino recorder. It's so much fun to play due to its bright, happy sound, and quick response. I was able to get all of the notes out with ease, and it sounded great!I will have to mention that for this recorder, make sure you're using your breath correctly, or else the sound will get a little harsh and unclear.This recorder is probably also not recommended for beginners, unless they are passionate about learning recorder and challenges won't stop them.

Yes, it is one of the many recorders which make up an ensemble, but from the perspective of a person who will likely never play in one: it's a pocket sized recorder. It plays exactly like all the rest. It is technically like a mini Alto recorder, not a mini soprano, but solo, it doesn't matter. It's a nice little recorder to just throw in a bag or keep in your pocket if you have some spare time you can play a few tunes or entertain some kids. It can be a little shrill and takes greater breath control than larger recorders. However, how many pocket sized, fully chromatic instruments can you get for about 20 bucks. So, works nice for ultra-portable music entertainment and on-the-go practice. It is high pitch, the sound really travels, so just keep that in mind when selecting your playing location/time.
